The Boats
For all sailing excursions on Blue Mesa, we sail a 25 foot Catalina named Zephyr. Catalina Yachts, based in California, build excellent sailboats designed to handle coastal conditions found off the California coast. She is a strong, sturdy boat, that sails very well. She has plenty of space to accommodate groups of up to six people. Down below she has a cabin complete with kitchenette, stove, fridge, and table. There are two seating areas below, a bathroom with toilet, and a several berths for sleeping.
Will the boat tip over and capsize? This is a common question we get. Many of us have seen or experienced small sailboats, like Sunfish, flip over, sending people for a swim. This will not happen on Zephyr. Catalinas are built to withstand very strong winds and ocean swells (of which there aren’t many on Blue Mesa!). So you needn’t worry about going for an unplanned swim while aboard Zephyr.
